Celebrity Look-alike Generator Shoot Out

Friday, May 16th, 2008

You’ve probably seen celebrity look-alike image collages before. They have made the rounds over the last few years. Here’s how they work. You upload an image of you or a friend’s face, then the sites do their thing and show you celebrities who you resemble. In our experience the results are usually a far stretch from looking like the person who’s face was uploaded, but it’s funny, so who cares right? Right.

We wanted to see which Celebrity Look-alike Generators performed best so we tested out a couple.

Here is our Celebrity Look-alike Generator Shootout. For our tests we used Conan the Barbarian.

First up is My Heritage Face Recognition

My Heritage Face Recognition

Axl Rose, and the Hoff. I can kinda see it.

Next up is celebrity match up by Picitup

Conan

celebrity match up by picitup

Brad pit and a pissed off Leonardo DiCaprio, not too far of a stretch.

I’m going to have to give the award to celebrity match up by Picitup.Which one do you think works best?  Regardless of accuracy, they are all fun to play with.

IrfanView: The Best FREE Image Viewer and Editor

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

If you need to shrink any photos to meet the pichacks 2MB file size limit, IrfanView might be just what you are looking for.

irfanview

This simple, fast, and free image viewer and editor is a longtime favorite of everybody I know who works with pictures regularly, and with good reason. There are times when it’s not necessary to open a big program like Adobe Photoshop™. For quick edits like, resizing, rotating, cropping, color adjustments, jpg compression, batch conversions, etc. Irfanview is perfect.

IrfanView loads quickly and excels at all the tasks I mentioned. It’s not going to replace a major paint program, but why use a meat cleaver to cut a stick of butter?

It is also perfect for quickly saving screen captures. When I want to make an image of my screen’s contents, here’s how I do it:

Hit the “Print Scrn” button on you keyboard.

Open IrfanView – An empty black screen will appear

Hit Ctrl + V (Paste) – This creates a new image with your screen grab

Then, just save the image to your hard drive. Simple and useful. http://www.irfanview.com/

Caption your photos

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

If you ever need to caption a photo quickly and easily, this image macro generator is the tool to do it. Upload a pic, then add your text. It couldn’t be easier. You can choose between different fonts as well as resize and move the text around. The interface is super slick, the guy who made the tool really knows his programming.

Even though the lolcat craze should die, this tool might still come in handy some day.
